If Everyone Cared
Jim March 26th, 2007

a conversation that has been going on for a while between myself and a group of friends who hang out here in nashville is, what would it look like to simply be love, and what influence would it have. one of those friends, Jeffrey, posted a blog today along those nights tied in to a Nickelback song, “If Everyone Cared”. here’s the post.
also, i’m pretty excited about a new approach we are taking with my podcast show: God, Life, My Dog Jack. Starting the week of April 6, the show is going to be conversations between myself and Rick, who is a friend and one of the “divine nobodies” from the book. the first several shows are going to delve into the topic of grace and how it influences are journey with God and frees us into those “wide open spaces”. you can sign up if you’re intersted at wiredparish.com.

are you free?
Jim March 25th, 2007

Jesus said his teaching would set us free; that he would show us “truth” and “the truth will set us free.”
what is freedom?
are you free?
what is this “truth” that sets us free?

say what?
Jim March 22nd, 2007

Jesus said, “Seek first the kingdom of God.” what did he mean? how is this your reality? if you were meeting someone for the first time and in your conversation asked them, “so, tell me about yourself. what do you do?” and they said, “well, right now i’m really focusing on my spiritual life and i’m seeking to be love in all things and this is pretty much the focus of my life.” what would you think? would you think they were a little flakey? let’s say you are someone who says you are apprenticing yourself to Christ for deepening your life in God. Christ says, “Seek first the kingdom of God.” okay, now what?

life happens at 4:15…am
Jim March 21st, 2007

i spoke at a book club last night that read Divine Nobodies. the cool thing was that the club is led by a neighbor and so it was just down the street. one of the greatest joys of daily living for me is simply knowing and doing life with my neighbors. tonight a few of us are going to hang out at a nearby coffee shop for conversation. i enjoy hearing how others are knowing and experiencing God.
Wide Open Spaces is coming along. i’m usually up about 4:15am and my best writing time seems to be 4:30 – 7:30, which i pretty much do daily. of course i ususally start fading about 9ish in the evenings. i’m actually getting pretty excited thinking about getting the book out there and all the opportunities it will allow me for interacting with others and where they are on their journey with God. i can tell one big change in me is i’ve lost all interest in focusing on what it’s not. my motivation is to know, experience and live what it is. i don’t want to argue and debate God, i simply want to know him and this is what i desire for others. sometimes it’s too easy to get stuck in that anti-_____ frame of mind – anti-church/anti-religion/anti-blah, blah, yadi, yadi. for me, the more i know God, the more i want to know God.
in an interview i was asked, “Would you say you’ve always had a dream to write?” i answered, “Not really. Even now I don’t think of myself as “a writer”; it’s just one of many aspects of my life. However, I have always dreamed of being a professional athlete or rock star; this may be the explanation for why I’ve had a lifelong fascination with Michael Jordan and Bono. If you’ve ever seen me play basketball or heard me sing, you’d know I have a ways to go. A few years ago God said to me, ‘I AM what you’re looking for.’ God wanted me to know that I was never going to find IT in human accomplishments or recognition. I enjoy writing and it’s part of my life in God. I have a sense right now God wants me to write, but it’s not always an easy thing.”
